For employees

Is EmployTrail free for employees?

Yes, always. Building your trail, your CV, letters and the talent pool cost you nothing.

Why do you need my NIN?

To make sure each person has only one trail and that nobody can build one in your name. We check it once with the national identity database, store it encrypted and never show it to employers. You share your EmployTrail ID instead.

Who can see my work trail?

Only businesses you approve, with a code sent to your phone. Approval lasts 30 days and you can withdraw it at any time from Access requests.

My old company has closed. What happens to that job?

It can be marked “Unverifiable”, which is an honest label rather than a failure. Add evidence such as a payslip, offer letter or staff ID to strengthen it.

An employer denied a job I really did. What can I do?

Open a dispute from your trail and attach evidence. Our team reviews every dispute and can ask the employer to check their records again.

For employers

How do you check that a business is real?

Companies upload their CAC certificate and we check the registration and the contact before approving. Households are checked by our team too. Only approved businesses can confirm jobs or see candidates.

How much does a check cost?

One credit per candidate. See the pricing page for current pack prices. Adding your own staff, confirming claims, recording exits and issuing letters are free.

Can I search for someone by name or NIN?

No. You need the candidate’s EmployTrail ID, or you can invite them by phone. This stops people being looked up without their knowledge.

What if the candidate doesn’t have an EmployTrail ID?

Invite them by phone from Check a candidate. When they sign up, a request from you is waiting for them to approve, at no cost.

Can my HR team use one account?

Each person gets their own login. Owners invite teammates as HR or Viewer from the Team page, and everything is recorded under each person’s name.

Guarantors and letters

What does a guarantor agree to?

To vouch for the person’s character and help an employer reach them if needed. The guarantee doesn’t make them liable for money unless they agree separately in writing. Read the guarantor terms for the full wording.

Can a guarantor withdraw?

Yes, at any time through their link. The guarantee ends after a short notice period, and the employee and any employer viewing the trail are told.

How do I know a letter is genuine?

Every EmployTrail letter has a code and QR code. Enter the code on the Check a letter page, no account needed. You’ll see who issued it and whether it has been withdrawn.

Still have a question?
